The opposition Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) has called on the government to normalize strained relations with Israel and Egypt.

MHP Deputy Chairman Tuğrul Türkeş shared his party's foreign policy priorities with the public during a press conference in Parliament on Friday.

“Our party has concerns regarding Iran's nuclear program ambitions rather than the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) or Kobani…[it is interested in a] return to pre-tension periods with Egypt and Israel. Also, we request the withdrawn Turkish ambassadors to Israel and Egypt to return to their offices,” Türkeş said.

The clashes in Kobani between local Kurdish fighters and ISIL have continued for weeks, an issue also occupying Turkey's political agenda after it sparked a massive wave of protests, claiming more than 40 lives.

Turkey suspended diplomatic relations with Israel after nine activists died when the Israeli military carried out an operation on the Mavi Marmara, a cruise ship carrying humanitarian aid and construction materials to deliver to the people of Gaza in an effort to break the Israeli blockade of the Gaza Strip.

Turkey's foreign relations with Egypt deteriorated after the Turkish government condemned the military coup led by then-Egyptian army head General Abdel Fattah el-Sisi against the democratically elected President Mohamed Morsi.

In the wake of the aforementioned crises Turkey withdrew its ambassadors from Egypt and Israel and suspended its diplomatic ties with the two countries.

Explaining the MHP's priorities in terms of Turkey's foreign policy parameters, Türkeş stressed that the MHP believes in the territorial integrity of all Middle Eastern countries, the principle of indivisibility, the security of borders, human rights and the rule of law, a series of values which will serve peace and stability.
