Militants holding several Lebanese soldiers hostage have handed over one soldier to Qatari mediators, a Lebanese security source said Tuesday.
"The militants released the soldier and handed him over to Qatari mediators," the source told Anadolu Agency.
The freed soldier was later handed over to Lebanese security forces.
Militants believed to belong to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) have captured several Lebanese soldiers following clashes with security forces in the border town of Arsal last month.
At least 17 Lebanese troops were killed in the violence, which also destroyed several camps that cater to thousands of Syrian refugees.
Along with the influx of hundreds of thousands of refugees, Lebanon has been hard hit by the conflict in neighboring Syria.
The country has also witnessed a recent surge in militant attacks in response to Hezbollah's role in the Syria conflict, where the Shiite militant group continues to fight alongside Syrian regime troops.
