The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated regarding the legal process concerning Rümeysa Öztürk, who was detained in the USA, "Developments regarding our citizen named Rümeysa Öztürk have been closely monitored since the first day."

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs made a written statement regarding the legal process of Rümeysa Öztürk, a Turkish citizen and doctoral student detained in the USA.

"CLOSELY MONITORED"

In the statement made by the Ministry, it was said, "Developments regarding our citizen named Rümeysa Öztürk have been closely monitored since the first day. Our citizen is one of the symbolic figures in a legal process that has emerged as a result of developments in the internal politics of the USA and concerns thousands of foreign students. The process related to the issue is being conducted within the framework of respect for personal rights, in line with the preferences of our citizen and her family."

"TWO LEGAL PROCESSES EXIST"

"On the other hand, the consular support provided to all our citizens who find themselves in difficult situations abroad has also been extended to Ms. Öztürk from the very first day," it was recorded. "Our Consul General in Houston has visited our citizen several times in the state of Louisiana, and our Consul General in Boston has also held an online meeting with Ms. Öztürk. Contrary to the claims made in some statements that aim to deliberately mislead the public and politicize the situation our citizen is in, there are two legal processes concerning Ms. Öztürk."

"NECESSARY SUPPORT WILL BE PROVIDED"

The statement also included the following expressions: "The first legal process concerning our citizen is the ongoing immigration case in Louisiana. The hearing held on April 16, which was followed by our Consulate General in Houston, addresses the legality of the cancellation of our citizen's visa by the US authorities. It is anticipated that the decision on this matter will be announced on May 1. The request for Ms. Öztürk's release on bail until that date has been rejected by the Court. The second process is related to the appeal against Ms. Öztürk's detention.

The court in the state of Vermont, where the issue is being addressed, announced its decision on April 18, following the hearing that took place on April 14 and was followed by our Consulate General in Boston. The court ruled that the authority to examine the appeal lies in the state of Vermont and ordered Ms. Öztürk's transfer to Vermont by May 1. The request for our citizen's release on bail is planned to be addressed by this Court on May 9. Both legal processes will continue to be closely monitored using all the resources of our Ministry, and necessary support will be provided."
