New Commander Appointed To ISAF Mission In Afghanistan

A new commander was appointed to the NATO International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan,

A new commander was appointed to the NATO International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan, according to a message posted on the NATO website.



NATO said in its message that John Campbell was appointed the new commander of ISAF mission in Afghanistan. He will replace Joseph Dunford.



Campbell previously served as deputy chief of the U.S. Army General Staff.



Azerbaijan is participating in the ISAF operations in Afghanistan.



ISAF troops will leave Afghanistan in late 2014, and part of military materiel will be sent out of the country to Europe and other countries via a transit corridor created by Azerbaijan.



Azerbaijani Armed Forces has been participating in the ISAF mission in Afghanistan since Nov. 20, 2002. Currently, the peacekeeping mission in Afghanistan involves 90 soldiers of Azerbaijani Armed Forces, as well as two military doctors and two engineers.



NATO peacekeeping mission was created in 2001 in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution.
