The government of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan appointed new ambassadors to several diplomatic posts on Tuesday, according to the Official Gazette.
The latest reshuffle in the Foreign Ministry took effect when the Official Gazette published the government decree concerning the appointments of new ambassadors. The ambassadors had been notified verbally by the Foreign Ministry a month ago.
Ahmet Davutoğlu, who is the most likely candidate to become the next prime minister, made his last replacements in these key positions as foreign minister. According to the government decree, Davutoğlu's special adviser Selçuk Ünal has been appointed ambassador to Canada.
Rıza Hakan Tekin, deputy director of the Iran-Iraq desk at the Foreign Ministry, will serve as Turkey's new ambassador to Tehran. Deputy Director İbrahim Mete Yağlı has been appointed ambassador to Botswana. Uğur Doğan, the former ambassador to Malaysia, has replaced Kerem Ahmet Kıratlı as the new ambassador to Oman, while Kıratlı has returned to Ankara for a role that is as yet unannounced.
