New operation for Bayrampaşa Municipality

A detention order has been issued for 13 individuals as part of a corruption and bribery investigation against the Bayrampaşa Municipality. 12 of the suspects have been detained, while 1 suspect is still being sought.

The investigation initiated by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against some public officials and suspects at the Bayrampaşa Municipality for the crimes of "embezzlement," "bribery," "giving bribes," "receiving bribes," and "tampering with a tender" is ongoing.

12 PEOPLE DETAINED

As part of the investigation, a detention order was issued for 13 suspects based on the statements of newly acquired complainants, witnesses, and suspects benefiting from effective remorse, as well as identification procedures and the examination of digital evidence.

In an operation carried out by the Financial Crimes Investigation Branch of the Istanbul Provincial Police Department, 12 suspects were detained, and 1 suspect is being sought.

WHAT HAD HAPPENED?

An investigation had been launched against the Bayrampaşa Municipality for the crimes of bribery, embezzlement, qualified fraud, and tampering with a tender. In the investigation, 20 people, including Mayor Hasan Mutlu, had been arrested.

After the arrest of Hasan Mutlu, elections for the deputy mayor were held in the municipality. The election was won by the CHP candidate İbrahim Kahraman as a result of a draw. Following an objection from the AK Party candidate İbrahim Akın, the deputy mayor election was repeated. In the second election, İbrahim Akın was elected as the deputy mayor of Bayrampaşa Municipality.
