Nigeria Closes All Schools Until October Due To Ebola Outbreak

Yesterday the Federal Government permitted that all schools in Nigeria are to remain closed until 13 October as part of measures to avoid the spread of the vital Ebola Virus.A statement was affirmed from the Minister of Education that ‘’ all primary and secondary schools both public and private are to.

Yesterday the Federal Government permitted that all schools in Nigeria are to remain closed until 13 October as part of measures to avoid the spread of the vital Ebola Virus.
A statement was affirmed from the Minister of Education that ‘’ all primary and secondary schools both public and private are to remain shut until Monday 13 October 2014. Schools are scheduled to re-open in the second week of September. He warned that any public or private school that fails to comply with orders will be sanctioned. The risk is high so prevention must be taken in order to ordain and safe lives”.
All state ministries of education are to immediately organize that at least two staff in each school both private and public are to be trained by the appropriate health workers before the 15 of September 2014, and should be well aware to handle any suspicion on the case of Ebola, “said the Minister of Education Ibrahim Shekarau.”
Embark on immediate sensitization of all teaching and non-teaching staff in all schools on preventive measures, “he said.
He also advised that all tertiary institutions are to suspend exchange of staff and student programs, visits and major international seminars and workshops until further notice. They are also ordered to monitor the movement of foreign students in their campuses. They must also liaise with appropriate government health institutions to organize and ensure effective sensitization program for all their teaching and non-teaching staff.”

The Nigerian Government said it hopes that the hard efforts to contain the deadly virus are working, as there is only one case of Ebola remaining.
