Despite a slim chance of qualifying for next year's African Cup Of Nations tournament, interim coach of Nigeria's senior national team Shuaib Amodu said he is optimistic the West African country would be among 16 teams that will participate in the competition.
Shuaibu, who took up the challenge to qualify Nigeria for AFCON barely a week ago, however, said he is not a miracle worker but believes things will work in Nigeria's favor to book a place in the tournament.
Nigeria currently has four points from four matches, coming third in Group A of the qualifying series after Congo (Brazzaville) and South Africa, which respectively have seven and 10 points.
"We have done it before, we will do it again," he quipped, saying the Nigeria's national senior team, also known as Super Eagles, will win all the remaining qualifiers to reach first position or second position in the group.
To keep hope alive and qualify, Nigeria needs to beat Congo, in Brazzaville, on Nov. 15.
On Sept. 6, in the first leg match between Nigeria and Congo, the visitors had thrashed the home team 3-2 in Calabar, capital of Nigeria's southern state of Cross River.
The Nigerian team will, on Nov. 19, play against South Africa in Uyo, capital of the southern state of Akwa-Ibom, to know their actual fate ahead of AFCON 2015. (Cihan/Xinhua)
