A shariah court in Nigeria's northwest Kano state has sentenced a 63-year old man to death for raping a 12-year old girl.
Ubale Dosa was condemned to death after the court judges found him guilty of raping the young girl.
The judge also ordered Dosa, who had HIV, to pay N36 million ($240,000) as compensation in the event that the girl dies of the disease.
During the two-month trial, the court heard that Dosa had married two wives, who both had died of the deadly virus.
The verdict has been sent to the state governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, who reserves the power to assent or decline the ruling.
Last year, a Kano court had sentenced a man to death for raping a minor.
