ACHIEVED A HISTORICAL FIRST
The 22-year-old athlete earned the right to be the first player to compete in the main draw of the Madrid Open with her success. Zeynep Sönmez had previously defeated Leyre Romero Gormaz from the host country Spain in the first round of the qualifiers with set scores of 7-6, 6-3.
