Pakistan Accuses India Of Trying To Build New Bunkers

23.10.2014 16:18

The Pakistan Foreign Office has accused India of attempting to build new bunkers along its eastern border in violation of bilateral agreements.

Pakistan accused India of attempting to build new bunkers along its eastern border in violation of bilateral agreements, the Pakistani Foreign Office said Thursday.

Spokeswoman Tasnim Aslam told a weekly briefing that Indian forces had tried to construct new bunkers under the cover of "unprovoked" firing along its border in recent weeks.  She added that Pakistan had successfully foiled all such attempts.

She termed the alleged Indian moves a violation of the 2010 bilateral agreement between Islamabad and New Delhi, which disallows any such construction within 500 meters of the "Working Boundary."

"Pakistan will never permit such a construction which is a violation of our bilateral agreement," she said.

Pakistan Army Spokesman Major General Asim Salim Bajwa had said Wednesday Pakistan wanted peace on its borders, but warned India that any aggression would be paid back in the same coin.

The spate of cross border attacks between the two nuclear-armed countries that began earlier this month has already claimed several lives on both sides.

According to the Pakistan military, the Indian border force shelling and firing killed at least 14 civilians on its side.

Both sides have engaged in shelling and firing on the eastern borders known as the "Working Boundary," and the "Line of Control," which is a UN-monitored de-facto border that divides the Himalayan region of Kashmir between the two countries.
