Palestinian Presidency Slams Israeli Provocations

Palestinian presidency spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeinah on Monday described as "dangerous" and "unacceptable" recent Israeli violations against Palestinian holy sites and a recently-disclosed plan by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to build 1,060 new Jewish-only settlements in occupied East Jerusalem.



"These dangerous Israeli violations make the [Palestinian leadership's] decision to resort to international organizations and the United Nations Security Council an urgent matter," Abu Rudeinah was "ed as saying by the official Palestinian news agency.



He called on the U.S. administration to intervene to stop Israeli provocations in the Palestinian territories, warning against further deterioration of the situation in these territories.



Abu Rudeinah said the entire Middle East region was heading full tilt toward an "earthquake" that would affect everybody.



Israel has tightened security in Jerusalem over the past few weeks and has recently disclosed a plan to build new Jewish-only settlements in occupied East Jerusalem.



Palestinians have met recent Israeli escalations with protests, which usually end in the detention of many of them by Israel.
