Palestinians condemned Thursday the passing of an Israeli law concerning the force-feeding of Palestinian prisoners incarcerated in Israeli jails who go on hunger strikes.

Eassa Qaraqe'a, the prisoners' affairs department chief in the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) told Xinhua that the law translates into "an execution of prisoners who go on hunger strike."

"This law contradicts all international treaties and conventions, mainly the Geneva Fourth Convention," said Qaraqe'a, calling on member countries of the Genera Convention to cease the implementation of the law.

The PLO official said that Palestinian officials will meet with Arab-Israeli Knesset (parliament) members next week to investigate the law, adding that he initiated contact with various countries for the discontinuation of the law.

The Israeli Knesset passed Thursday a bill regarding the force-feeding of Palestinian prisoners on hunger strike in Israeli prisons, where 64 Knesset members voted in favor of the law and 40 were against, according to Israel Radio.

According to the report, the Israeli law was called "preventing suffering from hunger strikes," permitting authorities to force-feed prisoners on hunger strike in the event their lives are at stake. (Cihan/Xinhua)
