One police officer was killed Thursday evening after a gunman opened fire at the famous Champs-Elysees boulevard in the French capital, according to media reports.
French broadcaster BFMTV said the shooter was killed after the incident which left another police officer wounded.
The touristic area has been evacuated and closed off. Several police cars and helicopters have been dispatched to the scene.
Paris Police Prefecture said on Twitter an operation was ongoing and warned people to avoid the Champs-Elysees area.
There are reports of a second shooter on the loose. -
