A meeting was held between Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani and Pope Francis in Rome on Monday.
According to statement released by official website of the KRG, Barzani and Pope discussed latest situation in the Kurdish region and Iraq. They also discussed threat posed by Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) and the continuing fight against the militants.
Barzani explained that people of different beliefs were forced by ISIL to flee their homes, and they now live together in Kurdistan in peace. He explained how that the government and people of Kurdistan have received them and treated them with humanity. Barzani asked Pope Francis to encourage international community to provide more humanitarian aid.
Pope Francis pointed out the KRG’s efforts, and praised the atmosphere in Kurdish region which provided equally for people from different religious backgrounds.
