The disarmament process of the terrorist organization PKK is expected to begin next week with a "symbolic" group handing over their weapons, in line with the decision made at its 12th congress following the call of its leader Abdullah Öcalan. Duran Kalkan and Mustafa Karasu will preside over the weapon handover.
While waiting for President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's meeting with the DEM Party's Imralı delegation on July 9 during the "Terror-Free Turkey" process, eyes are also turned to the PKK's "symbolic weapon surrender ceremony." The DEM Party announced that the weapon surrender step of PKK members in northern Iraq could be followed by the press.
DURAN KALKAN AND MUSTAFA KARASU WILL ATTEND
It was stated that a group of 30 PKK members, led by the organization's so-called leaders Duran Kalkan and Mustafa Karasu, would "surrender their weapons in a symbolic ceremony" to be held in Sulaymaniyah, while the DEM Party took action to ensure the participation of journalists, representatives of Civil Society Organizations, and political party representatives in this ceremony.
In a statement from the party, it was said, "We are experiencing important and historic days that mean a new phase in the 'Peace and Democratic Society Process'." In this context, it was noted that a group of PKK members is expected to take steps in line with congress decisions at an event to be held in northern Iraq in the coming days. It was expressed that a limited number of columnists were invited by the party to observe the event, and other press members could follow this step with their own means. The announcement also stated that the party would carry out the accreditation of press members to ensure they do not face any difficulties.
