Pressure On Dutt As Werder Bremen Lose

Werder's under-fire head coach couldn't steer the Northern Germans away from another defeat. The players were jeered off at the end by a frustrated home crowd at the Weser.

Robin Dutt's days as Werder Bremen head coach look to be numbered after his side went down to Cologne on Friday evening. Dutt's struggling team are bottom of the table and without a win in their last 10 league games stretching back to last season.



Nigerian Anthony Ujah came off the bench and netted within 100 seconds for his second goal of the season. It's the newly-promoted side's second win in successive weeks after their surprising 2-1 win over Borussia Dortmund on home soil last Saturday.



The River Islanders had a flurry of corner-kicks early in the match, but Dutt's men were edgy and unable to capitalize on the advantage as the early exchanges teetered out to the frustration of the home fans.

In the 55th minute, though, Werder midfielder Zlatko Junuzovic lifted the home crowd with a speculative volley from a tight angle, which prompted a fine, finger-tip save from the impressive Germany U-21 national team keeper Timo Horn.



But the deadlock was finally broken in the 58th minute. Ujah - a replacement for Daniel Halfar less than a minute before - struck home from eight yards to convert Dusan Svento's low cross after he slalomed past a hapless Sebastian Prödl on the wing.



A shot from Asar Hajrovic cannoned against the woodwork immediately after the restart of play, as Bremen looked to make a quick response. However, Stöger's men held on firmly, showing the resolution we have come to expect this season, leaving Werder nursing another defeat in the Bundesliga.



Werder Bremen have managed to pick up just four points from nine games, while Cologne move up into 12th.
