At least six Houthi militants were killed and five others injured in an attack by local vigilantes in the western Yemeni province of Taizz, a source with the vigilantes said Sunday.
"The vigilantes loyal to President ABD Rabbuh Mansour Hadi attacked a Houthi patrol in the west of provincial capital Taizz while it was en route to an army camp that had been seized by the Shiite group recently," the source told The Anadolu Agency, requesting anonymity.
The attack left six Houthis killed and five others injured, the source said, giving no further details.
Pro-Hadi militants have been fighting against Houthis in Taizz city for several days now. The clashes have left casualties behind on both sides.
Fractious Yemen has remained in turmoil since last September, when Houthi militants overran capital Sanaa and then sought to extend their influence to other parts of the country.
On Tuesday, Saudi Arabia announced the end of a fierce month-long air campaign that targeted positions belonging to the Shiite Houthi group in Yemen.
The following day, however, the Saudi-led coalition resumed airstrikes, stressing its right to strike Houthi targets "if necessary."
