An Egyptian woman was killed on Friday when security forces violently dispersed a rally staged by supporters of ousted president Mohamed Morsi in eastern Cairo.
"The victim died of birdshot wounds to the stomach," a source in the pro-Morsi National Alliance for the Defense of Legitimacy told Anadolu Agency.
According to the source, security forces used teargas and buckshot to disperse pro-Morsi protesters in the eastern Cairo neighborhood of Ain Shams.
Egyptian authorities could not be reached for comment.
Morsi supporters staged rallies on Friday in different parts of Egypt to protest perceived government failure to solve the country's chronic problems, including frequent power outages.
Egypt has been dogged by turmoil since the army unseated Morsi – the country's first freely elected president – last year following massive opposition protests against his administration.
Ever since his ouster, Morsi supporters have staged almost daily rallies to denounce what they describe as the "military coup" against the Islamist president and demand his reinstatement.
