Pro-Morsi Protester Killed İn Cairo

A protester was killed Friday in a rally staged by supporters of Egypt's ousted president Mohamed Morsi in eastern Cairo, a Health Ministry official has said.



"One person was killed during his participation in a demonstration in Matariya neighborhood," Khalid al-Khatib told The Anadolu Agency.



A source in the National Alliance for the Defense of Legitimacy, Morsi's main support bloc, confirmed the fatality.



He said the protester, Mohamed Hassan, died of birdshot wounds he sustained when security forces dispersed a rally in Matariya.



"Police and military forces fired teargas and birdshot to disperse the protest, which led to the death of one protester and the injury of several others," the source added.



Interior Ministry official could not be reached for comment.



The fatality comes shortly after two army officers were killed and two soldiers injured in two separate attacks on Friday.



The violence comes as Egypt's Salafist Front – a subcomponent of Morsi's support bloc called for an "Islamic revolution" on Friday with the aim of ending "military rule" and maintaining "Egypt's [Islamic] identity."
