A protester was killed Friday when Egyptian security forces dispersed a rally staged by supporters of ousted president Mohamed Morsi in eastern Cairo, according to a source from Morsi's main support bloc.
"An 18-year-old protester was struck by buckshot as security forces dispersed a rally in the Ain Shams district," a source from the pro-Morsi National Alliance for the Defense of Legitimacy told Anadolu Agency.
Several other protesters were injured during the dispersal, the source said.
Egyptian authorities, for their part, have yet to comment on the assertions.
Morsi, Egypt's first freely elected leader, was ousted by the army last year – and later imprisoned on a raft of criminal charges – following demonstrations against his presidency.
While Morsi's supporters describe his ouster as an illegitimate "military coup," his detractors call it a "military-backed revolution."
