An Al-Qaeda-linked group in Yemen claimed Monday that it killed 11 members of the Shiite Houthi movement in two separate attacks in the central Yemeni province of Al-Bayda'.

The Ansar al-Sharia militant group said via Twitter that it had detonated a roadside bomb as a vehicle carrying Houthi militants passed through Rada'a city in Al-Bayda' province.

The bombing had left seven Houthis dead, the group claimed.

A second attack targeted a house belonging to Houthis in Rada'a city with a rocket propelled grenade, leading to the death of four members, it added.

No senior members from the Shiite group was available for immediate comment, but the group rarely discloses casualty numbers within its ranks.

Yemen has recently appeared to be on the verge of civil war, as the Houthis seek to expand their control beyond capital Sanaa, which they took over in late September.

The Houthis' growing influence in the country has pitted it against both Al-Qaeda – said to be active in politically fractious Yemen – and allied tribes.

Recent fighting between the warring camps in the country's central and western regions has left dozens dead.
