Qatari Pm Meets Turkish Gendarmerie Commander

20.10.2014 20:48

Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani on Monday met in Doha with Gen. Abdullah Atay, commander of Turkey's gendarmerie (police) forces and the latter's accompanying delegation.

Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al-Thani on Monday met in Doha with Gen. Abdullah Atay, commander of Turkey's gendarmerie (police) forces and the latter's accompanying delegation.

The meeting focused on relations between Qatar and Turkey and means of pushing them forward, Qatar's official news agency reported.

According to the news agency, Atay is also in Qatar to attend the International Exhibition of Internal State Security (Milipol Qatar 2014), a three-day event inaugurated on Monday by the Qatari prime minister.

Milipol is a biannual fair the venue of which shifts between Doha and Paris. The event showcases the latest products offered by international companies in the field of internal security.

Around 260 companies from 36 different countries are participating in this year's fair.

The fair has become a top destination for Middle Eastern security planners, who attend the event for their internal security enforcement needs.

Qatari-Turkish relations have progressed steadily in recent years. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan paid a visit to Qatar in mid-September – his first to an Arab country since assuming the presidency in late August.

During Erdogan's visit, the two countries agreed to establish a supreme strategic cooperation council – tasked with promoting bilateral ties – to be headed up jointly by the Turkish president and Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani.
