The first objection to the 30-article penal reform proposal submitted by the AK Party to the Parliament came from the Democracy and Progress Party (DEVA). Group Deputy Chairman Sezai Temelli, in a live broadcast he participated in, stated, "The mountain didn't even give birth to a mouse. It is not of a quality to meet expectations."

After the expected step was taken today following the AK Party-DEM Party summit held in the Parliament yesterday, the AK Party submitted a 30-article penal regulation to the presidency of the Parliament.

"THIS TIME EVEN THE MOUNTAIN COULDN'T GIVE BIRTH TO A MOUSE"

The first reaction to the regulation presented to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) came from DEM Party Group Deputy Chairman Sezai Temelli. In a live broadcast he participated in, Temelli reacted to the regulation by saying, "Yes, there is a famous saying that goes 'The mountain gave birth to a mouse.' This time, even the mountain couldn't give birth to a mouse. Unfortunately, this judicial package did not come to us in a way that meets the expectations of society or the developments in other matters.

"WE SAY IT DIDN'T HAPPEN IN ONE WORD"

None of the things being described are currently of a nature to meet the urgent expectations. It didn't happen. If a package that has been discussed so much comes out like this, we say in one word, 'it didn't happen.' I wish the mountain had given birth to a mouse; we would have said, 'Well, at least there is a mouse.' You know, a hope to start with. There is no such thing. What is understood here is that the things the government sees as risks are such risks that they prevent them from taking steps.

"DESPITE REPEATEDLY BRINGING IT UP, THEY DID NOT TAKE A STEP"

Now when we ask, what they tell us is this: They say, 'There is a sense of impunity in society. There are femicides, rapes against women, child abuse, violence against children, their murders, or today the issue of drugs is very widespread in society, and while fighting against these, a penal regulation that allows people to be released from prison would create an uproar in society.' Okay. If there really is such a sentiment on these issues, a penal regulation could still be made by preserving such exceptional cases through the Penal Code and various regulations. Despite us bringing this up repeatedly, they did not take a step on this matter. They presented these as a risk."
