Two more deputies from the governing Justice and Development Party (AK Party) joined in the criticism of a new advisor to Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu, who said allegations of corruption are generally not baseless, calling on the advisor to provide proof of his view.

Columnist Etyen Mahçupyan, who was recently appointed as an advisor to Davutoğlu, said on a live TV show last week that corruption allegations -- speaking of them generally but interpreted to mean those against four former government ministers -- are not completely without merit. Reacting to Mahçupyan, AK Party Adıyaman deputy Mehmet Metiner was the first to warn Mahçupyan, as he called on him to make statements in accordance with his status as advisor to the prime minister.

After Metiner's statement, Ankara deputies Zelkif Kazdal and Fatih Şahin also criticized Mahçupyan on their Twitter accounts. While Kazdal, in a derogatory statement, called Mahçupyan a worthless advisor, Şahin said the former columnist's remarks are greatly unfair to the party and all of its deputies, as such allegations of corruption within the government make them all look suspicious.

On CNN Turk, Mahçupyan, who writes for pro-government daily Akşam, said the majority of the people believe in the existence of corruption and even the half of the AK Party electorate are uncomfortable with corruption.

Challenging Mahçupyan, Kazdal said it is nobody's right to support suspicions about the AK Party, and he urged Mahçupyan to prove his arguments. Similarly, Şahin asked the advisor on what basis he had made arguments of corruption like these and called on him to bring evidence.

Mahçupyan had also argued in the same show that there was a coup attempt against the government, which is why it acted outside the limits of the law.
