Regime Attack Kills 47 İn Syria, Activists Say

01.08.2014 09:48

Nine children and eight women are among those killed on Thursday.

At least 47 people, including nine children and eight women, were killed in air and ground operations across Syria on Thursday by forces of President Bashar al-Assad, opposition activists say.

The London-based Syrian Network for Human Rights watchdog said that 47 people had been killed in Aleppo, Deir ez-Zor, Damascus's suburbs, Deraa, Idlib, Hama, Homs, etc.

Meanwhile, opposition news agency Shehab, said that opposition forces had killed many regime soldiers in an ambush in Aleppo.

The agency said that Assad regime planes had used barrel bombs to attack areas controlled by Syrian opposition.

Syria has been gripped by constant fighting since the regime launched a violent crackdown in response to anti-government protests in March 2011, triggering a conflict, which has spiraled into civil war.

The UN has stopped updating its death toll for the country because an official count has become too difficult to verify. At least 100,000 deaths were recorded in the last official count in July 2013.
