Response to Özel's claim of "bargaining with power"

The leader of the CHP, Özgür Özel, came to Istanbul to visit Ekrem İmamoğlu, who is imprisoned in Silivri, canceling all his programs. Özel responded to claims that negotiations were taking place with the government for the release of Ekrem İmamoğlu and other detainees by saying, "There is no such negotiation. I have no intention of going to Erdoğan to beg for early elections or for İmamoğlu's freedom."

Just before Özel arrived at Marmara Closed Prison at 12:50, CHP Istanbul Provincial Chairman Özgür Çelik and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Mayor Nuri Aslan were also in Silivri.

Meanwhile, journalist Murat Yetkin asked CHP leader Özel about the claim that "negotiations were held with the government for the release of Ekrem İmamoğlu and other detainees."

Özel responded, "We have been saying from the beginning that they should be tried without detention, and that the hearings should be broadcast live. Yesterday in Mersin, I challenged Erdoğan to a political duel, even though I don't expect him to come."

There is no negotiation or anything like that. I have no intention of going to Erdoğan to beg for early elections or for İmamoğlu's freedom. Is there a negotiation for democracy and freedom? I am doing my part. My responsibility is to travel from city to city, to go to the media, and to tell the public the truth. We will continue to do that."
