Militancy and conflicts have left at least five people dead and injured seven others since Friday night in the conflict-ridden Afghanistan, officials confirmed Saturday.
In the latest violent incident, a sticky bomb targeted a car in Nangarhar's provincial capital Jalalabad city, 120 km east of the national capital Kabul on Saturday morning, killing one person on the spot and wounding two others, police said.
"A sticky bomb exploded inside a car, killing one civilian on the spot and injuring two others including a woman," provincial police spokesman Hazrat Hussain Mushriqiwal told reporters.
All the victims were members of same family, he added.
The official also blamed Taliban militants for organizing the bombing. However, the outfit fighting the government to regain power has yet to claim responsibility.
In another development, four militants were killed and five others including a security person sustained injuries as clash flared up in Baghlan province with Pul-e-Khumri as its capital, 160 km north of Kabul Friday night, a local official said Saturday.
"A group of armed Taliban rebels raided a security checkpoint in Abqul area of Baghlan-e-Markazai district late last night, triggering a gun battle which lasted for a while, leaving four militants dead," district governor Gohar Khan Babri told reporters.
Five more persons including four militants and a security person sustained injuries in the firefight, he added.
Meanwhile, the Taliban militants, fighting the government to regain power, launched a massive offensive in Kamdish district of the mountainous Nuristan province Saturday morning, and the clash is continuing between the insurgents and security forces, a local television channel Tolo reported as breaking news.
