"A suicide bomber strapped explosive device in his body blew himself up next to the vehicle of an official with the election commission, killing his driver and injuring two others," Rahimi told reporters at the site of the incident.

The attacker was also killed in his blast, the Kabul police chief said.

Meanwhile, spokesman for the Election Commission, Noor Mohammad Noor, in talks with the media, identified the target of the attacker as Hawliya Khan Rodwal, the election body's regional director.

Noor said that since Rodwal was not in the vehicle he survived the bombing.

Except the bomber, all the three victims of the suicide bombing which occurred at 09:00 a.m. local time in Karta-eNaw locality, are civilians, police and eyewitnesses asserted.

Officials, however, put the attack on the enemies of peace in Afghanistan, a term used against Taliban militants for organizing the attack.

Taliban militants who term election as un-Islamic practice and have opposed holding elections in Afghanistan has yet to claim responsibility for the deadly suicide bombing.

Afghan Interior Ministry, in a statement released here said that a 12-year-old boy who has been given training by Taliban outfit to conduct suicide attack, handed over himself to security forces in the northern Faryab province on Friday.

Police also captured a militant equipped with suicide vest before detonating himself next to a police checkpoint in northern Baghlan province on the same day Friday.

Afghanistan's National Directorate for Security (NDS) or the country's counter-intelligence agency on Saturday reported arresting three terrorists including a suicide bomber and defusing an explosive-laden car in the capital city Kabul. (Cihan/Xinhua)
