The RTÜK imposed an administrative fine on the platform for identifying derogatory and abusive content towards women in the digital competition "The Power of Love" and decided to remove the program from the catalog.
The Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) imposed an administrative fine and a penalty of removal from the catalog on the digital media service provider platform broadcasting the competition program titled "The Power of Love" due to the presence of content that promotes pressure on women and exploits them.
VIOLATIONS EVALUATED IN THE MEETING
In the meeting held, RTÜK examined the content of the competition program broadcast on the digital platform to assess whether there were any violations. The evaluation revealed that the program included themes that legitimize the oppression of women by reducing gender roles to rigid and clichéd patterns.
EMPHASIS ON "EXCLUSION OF WOMEN FROM DECISION-MAKING MECHANISMS"
According to the Council's assessment, the program featured content that could lead to the exclusion of women from decision-making processes, forcing women into certain behavioral patterns, and presenting this situation in a positive light.
ASSESSMENT OF "WOMEN BEING USED AS OBJECTS"
The RTÜK report included evaluations stating that women are presented as objects or commodities physically, emotionally, or psychologically, that their emotional states are exploited for ratings and attention, and that they are positioned as "prizes" or "reasons" in competition among men.
VIOLATION OF ARTICLE 8 OF THE LAW
The Council determined that the content of the broadcast violated the provision in the first paragraph of Article 8(s) of the Law No. 6112 on the Establishment and Broadcasting Services of Radio and Television, which states, "It cannot contain programs that promote pressure on women and exploit women." In this context, an administrative fine and a penalty of removal from the catalog were imposed on the digital platform.
