Russia stated that the threats of attack from the U.S. and Israel against its ally Iran are "unacceptable," warning that an attack on Iran could potentially lead to disastrous consequences if nuclear facilities are bombed.

US President Donald Trump threatened Iran last week with bombing and secondary tariffs if it did not reach an agreement with Washington regarding its nuclear program. In response, the US had deployed additional fighter jets to the region.

In this context, when asked about the dangers related to Iran's nuclear program and the current situation, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated, "Moscow is determined to find solutions that respect Tehran's peaceful nuclear energy rights regarding Iran's nuclear program."

"IT COULD LEAD TO A GLOBAL CATASTROPHE"

Zakharova said, "It is illegal and unacceptable for countries opposing Iran to use military force in the context of a solution. Threats from outside to bomb Iran's nuclear infrastructure facilities will inevitably lead to an irreversible global catastrophe. These threats are absolutely unacceptable."

IRAN'S NUCLEAR PROGRAM AT THE CENTER OF DEBATES

Western countries accuse Iran of having a secret agenda to develop nuclear weapons by enriching uranium to a level of fissile purity that they claim is above what is reasonable for a civilian nuclear energy program.

Tehran, on the other hand, states that its nuclear program is "entirely for civilian energy purposes."

Russia and Iran opened a new chapter in January by signing a "comprehensive strategic partnership agreement." However, this agreement does not contain a mutual defense clause, and according to the agreement, if one party is attacked, the other will not provide any assistance to the attacked party.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov condemned the US threats in an interview with the US-based Life magazine and stated that "an attack on Iran could lead to a wider conflict in the Middle East." Ryabkov added, "The consequences of this, especially if there are attacks on nuclear infrastructure, could be catastrophic for the entire region."
