Russia: No Reason For Relations With Turkey To Worsen

08.10.2015 20:48

A Russian fighter jet was intercepted by Turkish jets after violating Turkey’s air space Saturday.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Thursday that relations between Ankara and Moscow would not deteriorate over Russia's violation of Turkish airspace.

A Russian fighter jet was intercepted by Turkish jets after violating Turkey's airspace Saturday.

"I do not see any reason for Russia-Turkey relations, especially economic cooperation, to experience some difficulties and worsening," Zakhorova said during the weekly press meeting in Moscow. "Turkish-Russian relations have advanced in a very dynamic way."

Zakhorova added dialog channels between Turkey and Russia remained open, "If it were not the case, some misunderstanding might have occurred but we are in a close contact."

Moscow has indicated Monday that the Russian fighter jet that violated Turkish airspace did so because of "bad weather conditions".

However NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said on Tuesday that Russia's incursion of Turkish airspace did "not look like an accident".
