23.11.2014 22:45

Russian spy, who leaked EU and NATO documents to Russian secret services, was released without completing her prison sentence.

The Russian spy, who leaked EU and NATO documents to Russian secret services, was released two days ago without completing her prison sentence.

Heidrun Anschlag and her husband Andreas were found guilty of espionage two years ago.

She was sentenced to five and a half years in prison and her husband to six and a half years.

A spokeswoman for German federal prosecutors confirmed to the German News Agency that Anschlag has been released on bail.

Her husband, however, will remain behind bars.

According to Der Spiegel, a German weekly news magazine, Anschlang's €500,000 expiation fee was paid by Russia.

Anschlag was taken into custody by German special police in 2011, while communicating with Russia through a radio set at her house in Marburg.

She had been spying for 25 years and allegedly leaked Russia documents regarding Afghanistan operations, NATO reforms and the EU.
