A high-level Saudi delegation arrived in Qatar on Wednesday for an "unannounced visit" – the first to the small, oil-rich Gulf nation since a diplomatic crisis erupted between the two countries in March.
Saudi Foreign Minister Saudi al-Faisal, intelligence chief Khalid bin Bandar and Interior Minister Mohamed bin Nayef arrived in Doha "for a short, brotherly visit," Qatar's official news agency reported.
Wednesday's visit was the first since Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain withdrew their ambassadors from Doha in March, claiming that Qatar had violated a 2013 joint security pact and interfered in their domestic affairs.
Many observers, however, linked the ambassadors' withdrawal to Doha's support for ousted Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi and the latter's embattled Muslim Brotherhood group.
Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) foreign ministers are scheduled to meet in Jeddah on Saturday amid speculation that participants will discuss the diplomatic crisis between the four countries.
