Dozens were killed on Friday after a bomb concealed in a car exploded at a motor park in Nigeria's northeastern Gombe State, eyewitnesses and officials have said.
"I can confirm the attack in Gombe, but I am not in a hurry to pronounce death just yet. I can only say more than 30 people were taken to hospital, and of course we have a record of people who have died in the blast," National Emergency Management Agency spokesman Ezekiel Manzo told Anadolu Agency by phone.
But Isa Abubakar, a resident of the town, told AA that he had counted "at least 11 people who died instantly following the blast at around 10am today."
Gombe, a northeastern state – like Adamawa, Yobe and Borno, which have been the epicenters of the Boko Haram insurgency – is believed to contain Boko Haram sleeper cells, although the state remains largely peaceful.
