Scottish National Party Confirms John Swinney As Its New Leader

John Swinney is set to become Scotland's next first minister, after he was confirmed the Scottish National Party's (SNP) new leader on Monday.

Swinney, a former deputy first minister of Scotland, emerged as the sole contender in the leadership race for a new first minister.

"I am deeply honoured to have been elected as Leader of @theSNP. I will give all that I have to serve my Party and my Country," he wrote on X.

The 60-year-old politician is a member of the Scottish Parliament for Perthshire North.

Last Monday, Humza Yousaf resigned as Scotland's first minister, saying he was not willing to trade his principles to win a no-confidence vote. -
