A senior Somali tax official was killed Sunday when an explosive charge attached to his car went off in Galkayo town in the autonomous northeastern Puntland region.
Duran Omar was driving to work when his car exploded, leading to his immediate death, eyewitnesses told The Anadolu Agency.
Security forces arrived at the site and launched an investigation into the incident, they added.
Responsibility for the attack has yet to be claimed, but similar incidents have been claimed in the past by Al-Shabaab militant group.
Somalia has remained in the grip of on-again, off-again violence since the outbreak of civil war in 1991.
Last year, fractious Somalia appeared to inch closer to stability after government troops and African Union forces – deployed in the country since 2007 – drove Al-Shabaab from most of its strongholds.
The militant group, however, has continued to stage attacks against government forces and African peacekeepers.
