A senior officer of the Albanian armed forces was one of the pilots who died in a helicopter crash in Spain Wednesday while trafficking illegal drugs from Morocco, Albanian prime minister said Thursday.
Prime Minister Edi Rama told a session of the parliament that the deceased, Sokol Feka, was a serving major of the Armed Forces of Albania with around 18 years of service. According to the Albanian Ministry of Defense statement, Feka was posted at Albania's Farka Airbase as an instructor and had taken his annual leave for Jan. 12 till Jan. 31.
The helicopter reportedly crashed in Spain's Malaga while it was transporting hashish, Spanish media said. It remains unclear exactly how the helicopter crashed. Spanish media reported that the helicopter crashed when it tried to get away from the Spain's paramilitary force Guardia Civil helicopter.
