South Korean Prime Minister Chung Hong-won arrived in Cairo on Saturday on an official visit that will last for three days, during which he is expected to discuss means of boosting economic cooperation with Egypt.

Receiving the South Korean Prime Minister at Cairo Airport were his Egyptian counterpart Ibrahim Mahlab, Tourism Minister Hesham Zaazou and the staff of the South Korean Embassy in Cairo, some airport sources said.

Following his visit to Egypt, Chung Hong-won will head to Morocco and then Azerbaijan on a week-long trip aimed at bolstering economic cooperation with the three states, South Korea's official Yonhap news agency said earlier.

It added that in Egypt, the South Korean premier would meet with his Egyptian counterpart Ibrahim Mahlab to discuss the participation of South Korean companies in building a nuclear power plant in Egypt.

Egypt plans to construct four nuclear power plants for the generation of electricity. The plants are hoped to be operational between 2015 and 2025.

A senior Electricity Ministry official said earlier that seven international companies had already applied for the construction of Egypt's first nuclear power plant.

He said the companies included one from Russia, another from the United States, a third from South Korea and a fourth from France.
