Sportaccord Convention's Russian Opening Ceremony

International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach and Russian Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko oversaw the opening ceremony of the 2015 SportAccord Convention in the resort town of Sochi on Monday evening.



The six-day convention gathers some of the foremost figures in world sports and represents nearly 100 Olympic and non-Olympic sports federations and organizers of multi-sports events.



The opening ceremony, held in Sochi's Iceberg Palace, was a celebration of local culture and sports. Around 12,000 spectators saw ice-skating displays and performances from artists including Georgian singer Tamara Gverdtsiteli and the Kuban Cossack Choir.



The convention, to which The Anadolu Agency is the official media partner, runs to April 24.
