Students Go To Schools Under Shadow Of Weapons

At the street of historical Four Legged Minaret, in which Diyarbakır Bar President Tahir Elçi was killed in gun battle in Diyarbakır’s Sur district on Nov. 28, the entrances were banned by the police in Turkish southeastern province of Diyarbakır on Monday. Police have been staying on alert with long barreled weapons at the entrance. The students have been going to their schools under the shadow of weapons.

A curfew had been declared in Sur district after the death of Tahir Elçi and two police officers. Following the ending of curfew journalists could enter the scene.

Also, within the arrival of the inspectors, who were appointed by Interior Ministry to held inspection on scene, gunshots were heard in the street. Security forces had taken the inspectors away by the vehicles. Police have been asking frequently the people not to gather in the street.

Residing in Hasırlı neighborhood, students had to go to their schools under the shadow of the weapons. The students arrived to Gazi Street, by using the street, of which entrance was closed by the police and the down side was closed by YDG-H forces, and headed their schools. Police also checked the identity cards of some people.

Schools had been suspended due to the clashes between Kurdistan Worker’s Party (PKK) and security forces, which have been taking for months. The students in the district were transferred to the other schools in the city.
