At least ten Sudanese activists were detained Monday by security forces in the capital Khartoum.
"Plain-clothed men arrested at least ten activists at a café in central Khartoum," eyewitness told Anadolu Agency.
According to the witness, a journalist was among those detained.
There was no comment from Sudanese authorities.
The arrests come on the eve of protests called by a youth group on the first anniversary of anti-regime protests that left scores dead.
Last year, Sudan was rocked by massive protests against austerity measures taken by the Khartoum government.
According to official estimates, at least 70 people were killed in the protests, but Amnesty International puts the death toll at 200.
While the opposition accuses Sudanese security forces of shooting the protestors, the government blames rebel groups for the violence.
