Super Bowl XLIX Looms For Vollmer's Patriots

Super Bowl 49 is on Sunday and is one of the most viewed sporting events of the calendar year. For New England's German offensive tackle Sebastian Vollmer, a chance to make history awaits against the Seattle Seahawks.



"It's a contact sport. There's always going to be bruises," said Vollmer to sports agency SID on Friday. On Sunday night - or Monday morning, depending on where you are in the world - the greatest show on turf will make its annual appearance and Vollmer will be hoping those bruises are battle scars of victory at the end of the game. The New England Patriots, led by their legendary quarterback Tom Brady, are aiming to win their fourth Super Bowl. Standing in their way are the bullish defending champions, the Seattle Seahawks.



Seattle are bidding to become the first team to win back-to-back Super Bowl's since the Patriots (2003, 2004), whilst Tom Brady will be appearing in his sixth Super Bowl since he was drafted in 1998.



The history that potentially awaits Sebastian Vollmer is that the offensive tackle could become the first German to win a Vince Lombardi trophy. Vollmer and the Patriots beat fellow German Bjoern Werner and his Indianapolis Colts in the AFC Championship game to reach this year's season finale.



The showcase event takes place at the University of Arizona Stadium, in Arizona, Phoenix, although the week just gone has been a mass of fan activities and media frenzy.
