An attack in Pakistan's southern port city Karachi, thought to be by a suicide bomber, killed four and injured 15 on Thursday morning, police said.
Pir Mohammad Shah, a city police chief, confirmed the death of Inspector Shafiq Tanoli - known for operations against Taliban members.
Shah said police found a severed head at the location, indicating the attack could have been carried out by a suicide bomber.
If police suspicions are correct, it would be the first suicide attack since Taliban groups, under the umbrella organization Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan, ended a 40-day long ceasefire with security forces last week.
Tanoli, who had been suspended on corruption charges last month, had been attacked by TTP insurgents five times in the last two years.
"He (Tanoli) was sitting with his friends on a tailoring shop near his residence when a man – in his early 30s – entered the shop, and a huge blast occurred," Nazir Hussein, a neighbor of Tanoli, told reporters.
Despite the end of the ceasefire, TTP said it will continue to participate in peace talks with the government.
