Syria: 6 Dead, 40 İnjured İn Bomb Attack

At least six people were killed and 40 injured Friday in a vacuum bomb attack by Syrian regime forces in Damascus's eastern town of Zamalka.



According to hospital sources in Zamalka, a combat aircraft belonging to Bashar al-Assad's forces targeted a residential area controlled by the opposition. 



A highly destructive vacuum bomb was used during the attack, which claimed six lives and injured 40. Several of the wounded are in critical condition, still according to hospital sources.



A vacuum bomb detonates before hitting the ground, spreading clouds of fuel that ignite using the oxygen in the air - thus creating a temporary vacuum.



Yusuf el-Bustani, a local activist told The Anadolu Agency that numerous houses had been damaged or demolished in the attack but civil defense teams had managed to save many from the rubble.



The civil war in Syria, which has claimed the lives of more than 150,000 people so far, pits a fragmented opposition against regime forces.



It also paved the way for extremist movements, such as Daesh, to gain a foothold in the region.
