An indictment has been prepared against four taxi drivers who assaulted their driver, Alper Özcan, through the 'Martı Tag' application in Ankara. The suspects are facing charges of 'attempted robbery at night', 'threatening with multiple people', 'deprivation of liberty', and 'intentional injury', with a request for up to 22 years of imprisonment for each.
On January 29th at 02:30 in Ankara, a ride request was made through the app to Martı Tag driver Alper Özcan. Abdurrahman A. and Murat A., who got into Özcan's vehicle heading to the location shown by the app, stated that they wanted to go to Dikmen. During the journey, the suspects asked Özcan to stop the vehicle, claiming to be police.
THE SUSPECTS WERE ARRESTED
After stopping the vehicle in Kızılay, the suspects claimed to be taxi drivers and tried to forcibly remove Özcan from the vehicle. The suspects began to insult and hit Özcan, recording these moments on video. At that time, taxi drivers Umut Can K. and Ömer Berkan A., who were around the park, also threatened Özcan and tried to forcibly remove him from the vehicle. The suspects, who were taken into custody, were arrested by the duty magistrate and sent to prison.
"WE CALLED FOR PRICE COMPARISON"
In the indictment, the suspects Abdurrahman A. and Murat A. claimed that they called the complainant Özcan for price comparison and alleged that they stopped him to hand him over to the police.
NOTABLE DETAILS IN THE INDICTMENT
In the indictment prepared by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was stated that the suspects Abdurrahman A., Murat A., Umut Can K., and Ömer Berkan A. made statements to the complainant driver Alper Özcan such as "Why are you doing Martı Tag, you are infringing on the rights of taxi drivers, you shouldn't be doing this, you will die here," attempted to take the complainant's car keys, and collectively assaulted the complainant.
"THE SUSPECTS WERE IN CONCERTED ACTION"
While the suspects denied the charges against them, the indictment noted: "The statements of the suspects, which are inconsistent with each other and not in line with the ordinary course of life, were not taken into account. Considering the camera footage of the events that occurred in the vehicle, which is deemed to be shared by the suspects, the forensic medical report belonging to the complainant, and the entire file, it has been understood that the suspects acted in concert in the execution of the decision to commit a crime."
PENALTIES SOUGHT FOR 4 CRIMES
The indictment stated that the suspects planned to call the complainant Alper Özcan to the scene, and requested up to 22 years of imprisonment for Abdurrahman A., Murat A., Umut Can K., and Ömer Berkan A. for the crimes of 'attempted robbery at night', 'threat with multiple people', 'deprivation of liberty', and 'intentional injury'.
