Thai Military Court Orders Release Of Student Activists

07.07.2015 11:36

Bangkok's military court on Tuesday ordered that the 14 student activists, who have been detained for violating junta orders, be released. The court turned down a police request for the students to be detained for 12 more days, citing they were not a flight risk. They are to be freed later in the day, but could still face trial. The 14 university students were arrested on June 26 after staging a street rally in Bangkok to protest against the military rule, in defiance of the ban of the coup-making National Council for Peace and Order on political gatherings of more than five people. They have also been charged with sedition charges under Article 116 of the Criminal Code.
