The President of the Confederation of All Roma Associations, Fahrettin Savcı, announced that they will file a criminal complaint against Erman Toroğlu due to his derogatory statements about Roma citizens regarding the use of the term "gypsy" for Beşiktaş football player Orkun Kökçü.
Former referee and sports commentator Erman Toroğlu's statements regarding Orkun Kökçü, who received a red card in the Fenerbahçe match and left Beşiktaş with 10 players, were met with a reaction from Fahrettin Savcı, the President of the Confederation of All Roman Associations.
'A CLEAR HATE SPEECH TOWARDS ROMA'
In his statement, Savcı expressed that the remarks made by Toroğlu constitute a vile hate speech against Roma people, stating, "The ugly statements made by former referee and sports commentator Erman Toroğlu regarding Orkun Kökçü, who received a red card in the Fenerbahçe match and left Beşiktaş with 10 players, are a clear hate speech towards Roma."
'COMPARED HIM TO A GYPSY'
Continuing his remarks, Savcı indicated that they would file a criminal complaint against Erman Toroğlu for his derogatory statements about Roman citizens, saying, "Toroğlu has compared the one who made a mistake to a gypsy, and he has not deemed him worthy of the Beşiktaş captaincy. As can be appreciated, in a television program watched by millions, Roman citizens have been belittled, marginalized, and subjected to racist and hate-filled words. These ugly statements are a clear hate speech towards Roma. Members of the Turkey Federation of All Roman Associations will file criminal complaints against Erman Toroğlu in their respective provinces for exceeding the limits, inciting hatred and hostility among the public, and committing hate and discrimination crimes."
