In the state of Florida, a sheriff's deputy neutralized an attacker who had taken his 7-year-old brother hostage with a single shot to the head. The young child escaped the incident unharmed.

In Florida, near Tampa, a 25-year-old Deputy Sheriff, Anthony Gonzalez, encountered a horrifying scene at a home he responded to following a domestic violence report. It was determined that 27-year-old Mario Camacho had taken his 7-year-old brother hostage with a knife and also injured his sister, who called 911.

"BREAK DOWN THE DOOR!" THEY SPRANG INTO ACTION

Upon arriving at the scene, the teams heard the child inside the house shouting, "Break down the door!" According to body camera footage, when Gonzalez broke down the door and entered the room, he found Camacho wearing a motorcycle helmet and a bulletproof vest. The assailant was seen holding the child with one hand while wielding a knife with the other.

Despite repeated warnings to "Let the child go," Camacho resisted, prompting Gonzalez to incapacitate the assailant with a single shot to the head. The 7-year-old child emerged from the incident unscathed. Camacho died at the hospital where he was taken.

"A TRAGIC BUT HEROIC INTERVENTION"

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office stated that the deputy's swift action saved the child's life, but the incident was "extremely tragic" for the family. The statement noted that the suspect had faced domestic violence charges twice in the past and had a record under the Baker Act due to mental health issues.

Following the incident, Deputy Sheriff Gonzalez was placed on administrative leave until the investigation is concluded, as per standard procedure.
