The opening of the Çanakkale Cultural Route Festival began with a ceremony held at the Anadolu Hamidiye Battery Hangar, attended by Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism Serdar Çam. The ceremony was attended by Çanakkale Governor Ömer Toraman, Turkey Cultural Route Festival Director Selim Terzi, and Gelibolu Historical Area President of the Çanakkale Battles İsmail Kaşdemir, along with local protocol and many art enthusiasts.
"OUR AIM IS TO PROMOTE THIS CITY TO THE WORLD MORE STRONGLY" In his speech at the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism Serdar Çam stated, "The city of Çanakkale, known for its epics and heroism, is hosting our festival for the 4th time as one of Turkey's most special cities with its historical riches, unique nature, and cultural heritage. In these lands that host the epic of Troy, the glory of the Çanakkale Victory, and the abundance of Anatolia, we will all experience the heart of art, culture, and enthusiasm together for nine days. Across our city; at 34 different locations, a total of 400 events await you, ranging from concerts to exhibitions, workshops to discussions, gastronomic experiences to children's activities. Our aim is to promote this unique city not only to Turkey but to the world more strongly," he said.
TURKEY, A WORLD LEADER IN TOURISM WITH RECORDS Çam emphasized that despite crises, historical records have been reached in tourism, saying: "Thanks to strategic investments and diversified market policies made despite natural disasters and crises, we have brought both our visitor numbers and our revenues in tourism to record levels. According to the United Nations World Tourism Organization data, Turkey has risen to 4th place in world tourism with 56.7 million foreign visitors in 2024.
In the first six months of 2025, we achieved the highest half-year performance in our Republic's history with over 26 million visitors and $25.8 billion in tourism revenue. By the end of the year, we are steadily progressing towards our tourism revenue target of $64 billion. In addition to Cultural Route Festivals, we aim to spread culture and art across Anatolia with events such as Living Heritage Festivals and An Anatolian Festival, to keep our rich heritage alive and visible."
EXHIBITION MARATHON HAS STARTED IN HISTORICAL BATTERIES AND MUSEUMS After the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister Serdar Çam and the protocol team visited the "Heritage of Civilizations" and "Secret" exhibitions opened at the Anadolu Hamidiye Battery. The battery, which draws attention with its historical texture, hosted a profound cultural journey from the past to the present with the exhibited works. Visitors had the opportunity to closely see the aesthetic understandings of different periods through the works reflecting the traces left by civilizations.
After the visit, Deputy Minister Serdar Çam and the protocol team examined the museums reflecting Çanakkale's cultural heritage. In the Deniz Museum, which draws attention with its historical atmosphere, the exhibition "Anatolia on the Face of Money: From Troy to Çanakkale" showcased the long historical journey of Anatolia through the figures on coins, while collections bearing the traces of time attracted the interest of visitors. Additionally, in the "Layers of Time" exhibition at the City Museum, the social, cultural, and historical development of the city was conveyed step by step through documents, photographs, and artifacts, while the exhibition halls created a bridge between the past and the present. Both exhibitions stood out as impressive stops that carry Çanakkale's rich heritage to the present day.
HISTORY, ART, AND TECHNOLOGY COME TOGETHER IN ÇANAKKALE The final stops of the day were filled with events that further enriched Çanakkale's cultural and artistic journey. The "Anatolian Civilizations Exhibition" opened at the Çanakkale Battles Research Center offered visitors a historical exploration with selected works that carry the traces of civilizations that lived on Anatolian soil. The "Robotic Coding" workshop held at the same center attracted great interest from children, introducing them to technology while providing an opportunity to develop their creativity. The day's finale took place at the State Fine Arts Gallery; the "Imaginary Istanbul" exhibition reinterpreted the symbolic values of the city with the unique language of contemporary art, offering art lovers an aesthetic feast. Thus, these special stops where history, technology, and art meet provided different experiences for festival participants, leaving unforgettable traces in their memories.
